Our Story
Ah Sure Look It is a crafts and gifts shop stocking a range of products from local artists, makers and designers. It all started when a group of ladies, who met while working their own market stalls in Galway, decided to open a pop up shop together as a sort of small retail experiment. They found the perfect space at 16 Woodquay, formerly known as Gatsby menswear, and set about turning it into their dream shop. A lot of elbow grease and new found DIY skills later (with a little help from a Dad with a power tool!) and Ah Sure Look It was born in October 2019.
Glasses were clinked, chocolate was consumed, and everyone buckled up excitedly for a whirlwind of Christmas shopping, with visitors eager to support local independent retailers more than ever. Lots of guest stockists were invited to pop up, market-style, and sell their own goods in the space. This made for a busy and exciting hub of mingling customers and creators.
The pop up shop
The pop up shop had been a dream come true, and the Ah Sure Look It ladies were determined not to let it go, even when COVID struck and things looked bleak. The stars aligned it seems, as Ah Sure Look It re-opened as a permanent shop in August 2020. It is now run by two of it’s original founding members, Marta Barcikowska of Photo by Marta and Aisling O Brien of All The Falling Stars Jewellery. Ah Sure Look It’s range of stockists is evolving constantly, with a large assortment of Irish made and designed goods, along with some smaller European brands that have a focus on ethical and sustainably produced items. A personal touch and a big dose of humour are this shop’s memorable assets, along with products that bring joy, and are made with dedication and skill.
Finding out Aisling’s in house jewellery brand had a royal fan in the Princess of Wales, shortly after the shop opening, was an exciting boost for all involved, and a testament to the quality of locally made products to be found in Galway. Customers can find a different maker in store each day playing shopkeeper, while browsing Marta’s hilarious cards, Anna’s amazing scented candles, or Aisling’s gorgeous jewellery. Very often, the person at the counter can say “I made that one myself” while doing the little ‘shop local’ dance, and that’s something the Ah Sure Look It team are really proud of.
